Madam Speaker, I stand before this august gathering to deliver this historic State of the Province Address which coincides with the attainment of 25years of democracy in our country. Following our first democratic elections which were held on 27 April1994, we took steps towards building a society that for the first time would not be based on the colour of one’s skin, but which sought to build one united, non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa.

Perhaps today we need to reflect on the journey that the RBIDZ has travelled since we started the governments’ term of office in 2014.

Richards Bay: The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone, located along the biggest port of Richards Bay is investing millions of rands to ensure the development of skills required to drive socio-economic development in KwaZulu-Natal. The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) is extremely pleased with the announcement by the Department of Energy at the South Africa Gas Options Conference held in Cape Town that Richards Bay is to be allocated approximately 2000 megawatts of the 3126 megawatts allocated to the Gas to Power (G2P) programme.

At a double ceremony to mark Richards Bay Innovation Day, Sihle Zikalala, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs opened the Richards Bay IDZ Phase 1A Customs Control Gate Complex followed by a sod-turning event for the Techno Hub led by the MEC for Finance, Ms. Belinda Scott.
